Community Impact / Volunteering

This website was designed by me and routinely maintained for free to help benefit Place of Hope. In addition to the importance of my work as an employee, I believe in utilizing my skillset to better my community.

This website is for a local outreach program serving the Central Minnesota community.

  • I redesigned the entire site, which was last updated in 2012. I updated the site to be mobile friendly, wrote copy for the site, and developed an integrated scheduling system.

  • The prior process for serving meals at the shelter was to call the shelter, and have someone write your name down on a calendar. Now people can look online, see what is open, select a slot and sign up. This new process saves hundreds of hours a year and allows the shelter volunteers focus on serving community members in person.

  • Every year at Christmas, I manage the Adopt-A-Family process. I create an online submission form for families wanting to be adopted, synthesis and anonymize the data and set up an online marketplace for people to choose a family to adopt. I manage all communication between the families and the shelter coordinating the gift delivery. Over the last two years we’ve seen a 96% increase in families applying to be adopted, in large part due to the accessibility of the online application form.
